We stayed at the hotel so I had reserved afternoon tea for 2 different days. I have had afternoon tea all over the world and this place was so disappointing. The service from the start (were made to wait for a long time before we...were seated even though there were only 2 other parties having tea when we arrived) was not good. After informing them of food allergies they brought the tea. The tea was good (two different kinds). The sandwiches were ok, but the savories were not that good. The scones were not served warm and the clotted cream was really runny and not firm like it should be. The waiters almost never came by and checked on us (ran out of tea for awhile and wanted a glass of water but there was no one to ask for a long time). During our first time there a woman came in and sat down at a table and waited to be served and it took them 25 minutes to come to her and only after she chased a waiter down. She was as frustrated as we were. It was during the 2nd time we had the afternoon tea where things got a bit more sketchy. After informing the waiter of food allergies he brought 2 items that contained the food that I was allergic to. That could have been quite dangerous if I hadn't been paying attention. London has some wonderful afternoon tea places but this is not one of them. Find another place to experience what should be a wonderful experience.More

I have the afternoon tea at the lounge on Christmas day, it was a wonderful time and the food is delicious and the environment made one feel so relaxing. Price:it was a little bit expensive, but it was worthy.

Having been greeted and directed to the lounge where we’d booked afternoon tea for 6, the assistant was unable to find our booking. No matter she said and set us up on a table. There were, in total, 8 people having tea. The food was...delicious and plentiful. At between 3 and 3.30 she left and was replaced by 2 gentlemen who had trouble looking after us, and table that were leaving and 3 new arrivals. We had to consistently ask for plates to be cleared for the next course, clean crockery and cutlery to eat it with, hot water for the tea and cold water. When we offered feedback we were told all the staff were new (no excuse in a 5*) and they were busy setting up for “an important function.” Clearly we were not considered important enough guests to warrant a service that we didn’t instigate. Very disappointing. If I were you I’d give it a miss.More

Met an old school friend for a coffee and catch up after over 20 years Ideally located for St James tube Not the cheapest as 4 cappuccinos came in at just under £25! Guess that’s London prices for you! Good biscuits though!

A tasty selection of sandwiches, savories, and desserts. I didn't opt for tea, but instead a double espresso, which was delicious as well. I did try the rose tea and liked it. Each item had a unique touch of flavor that made it different to...any afternoon tea I've had before.More

Took American family here for the British high tea experience, including young ones. While our primary waiter was a little dour, there is no question that staff made their best attempt to make us feel welcome and happy, including giving us an extra few cakes...when the kids developed favourites. SO appreciated - kindness is lovely. The salmon on beetroot bread was yummy, The little grapefruit desserts were amazing, so original and fresh. A wonderful array of teas. VERY indifferent scones, which is a shame considering they were fresh and had been noted as the highlight by other reviewers. My mum had to ask for slightly stained cutlery to be replaced. The set-up of chairs and table was slightly counterproductive, putting several of us at an odd angle. In general, my feeling was that staff are so very appreciated, and the chef ambitious and imaginative, but the execution lacked finesse and just plain yumminess. Also, portions are very small indeed. I know it's tea etc etc but wow, there's a certain meaness. Nevertheless, my sister in law enjoyed her bubbles. The question always is: would I go back? Not really, no.More

We scheduled afternoon tea here on our first day. The flavors in London are very different but everything was quite good. The tea selection was very large. We added on the special gin cocktails of the month which pairs with the cakes. What a treat!More

I visited two days ago with a friend for champagne afternoon tea and it was a very average experience. Our tea and sandwiches were produced upon our arrival. Nice, tasty sandwiches but only three finger sandwiches each, not even a round each. There were several...very small savouries provided too. Once we'd eaten these our plates were whisked away and we were provided with new plates. We had three small cakes each plus two small scones. I have had afternoon tea at many establishments and in my experience, one is always at least offered more sandwiches before starting on the cakes and scones. The staff were attentive throughout the afternoon and topped up our tea but we felt that the experience was too hurried and nobody was there to acknowledge us as we left. Usually I leave an afternoon tea with cakes or scones that I haven't been able to eat but in this instance I devoured all the food supplied and was hungry a few hours afterwards.More
