Great 3 bedroom clean unit overlooking the beach. Pool area was well maintained and public areas were clean. Manager's Janelle & Steve were welcoming and friendly. Great location, within walking distance to restaurants, bars and the beach.

First time staying at Grand Palais Resort and we were not disappointed. We booked a 1 bedroom unit but were put into a 2 bedroom which was beautifully fitted out with a modern decor. The resort was across the street from the beach and our unit had ocean views. The Managers, Janelle & Steve were wonderful and nothing was too much trouble. The resort was an easy walk to Mooloolaba and the Alex Surf Club. We had a wonderful weekend away and would highly recommend the Grand Palais.

Firstly, the staff here were great. Friendly and more than accommodating to assist. It was the little things that let it down. Firstly the air vent in the ensuite bathroom was caked in dust, obviously hadn't been cleaned in some time. When we went to use the BBQ on the rooftop, the knobs were covered in spiderwebs. Again, obviously nobody is going up there to even check on it. The TV has a small selection of FOXTEL channels but they're almost unwatchable as they are transmitted through the antenna cable meaning there's a bad delay between picture and sound. The room amenities were OK but a little dated, I mean who has a VCR in 2020?? The only updated thing was a large TV but again this was useless as we bought a hard drive to play movies on it but found that the remote control wouldn't work because it needed some sort of dongle in the back of the TV. This has either been misplaced, stolen, or never put in. By this stage I was sick of calling for assistance and let it go. Speaking of TV's, the main bedroom has possibly the smallest TV in the world. You need binoculars to watch it from your bed. Not even worth putting it there. Be better putting a slightly bigger TV in the second bedroom for kids to watch. We spent a lot of time in the pool which was very clean and a nice space to hang out. The pool is heated year round to 29.3 degrees, as the maintenance guy advised us. There is also covered BBQ facilities in the pool area. Literally across the road from the beach, it couldn't be better and there's plenty of shopping and food choices in the area so you'll never be stuck for anything.

You may see I have favorably reviewed this awesome place many times. However on trying to confirm our tenth visit this coming March, having booked and paid over 50% deposit in March 2019 we have been informed we have no booking. Despite being told one day that the unit was “Double Booked” two days later it was mysteriously “out of the pool”. Sure we realize the new management have more than doubled the tariffs (they are now competing against newer better places), but to just dump an 8 year, long standing booking with the sentence “confirmation emails does not guarantee a booking!” is just crazy. We have had 8 friends stay here on our recommendation in that time, but we just cannot risk friends having their holidays messed up like ours has been this year.

Response from Janelle Dunn , Owner at Grand Palais Beachside Resort

As you are aware, the unit you booked was not available due to a maintenance issue (your 2019 booking was also moved to another room by the previous management due to this). We noted that the previous managers booked you into that apartment - even though works had not even commenced. We did not dump an 8-year booking without calling every other guest with a booking to see if an alternative booking could be opened for you. This scenario can, and does, happen due to unforeseen maintenance being required or due to unit owners removing their property from the available letting pool (An owner can remove a unit from a holiday listing by giving only 30 days’ notice). We contacted you to advise that the unit would not be ready for your booking giving you more than 60 days’ notice and offered to try to find another property. This apartment is still not available (more than a month past your booking date) due to the resultant refurb being of a difficult nature and taking much longer than the owner anticipated. We will never know why the previous managers booked you into a room that was not available and put us all in this position.

The reviews are all over the place and I was a bit leery to stay here. It was decent enough and I probably would stay there again. My first impression was it was cleanish, a bit dated, but overall ok. The beds and pillows were comfortable and clean, the bathroom and showers were clean, might could use a good scrub not just a gloss over. A bit tired and the master ensuite shower requires a step up which is overall a weird design, but it works. The other bathroom has a small shower and washer and dryer which was great. The main floors are tiled which is best for sand covered feet. There is a small closet with broom, mop, vacuum, umbrella and dustpan which is great for constantly sweeping sand off the floor. The kitchen is stocked with most of what you need for cooking. The fridge was clean, dishwasher was fine expected for racks coming off track, stove and oven were clean. The hood fan could use a good clean, but it was good enough. There were ample dishes and silverware for dining enough for 8 people to dine. If you want to bake a cake or casserole bring your own dish for cooking other than that the kitchen has what you will need. I felt the entire place needed a good scrub down, the light fixtures were dusty, and bit dirty the dining table had been cleaned but not well. Ok, it wasn't that bad just a few tweaks is all it needs. The biggest thing working against this place is the traffic noise and the lights from the neon signs and traffic lights at night. Bring ear plugs, eye mask and maybe a small fan to block out the noise. The air con humming blocked out a bit of the noise. The biggest pro's of this place is the location and also underground parking. The parking spaces are numbered, not in order, just drive until you see your number. There are trolleys for luggage in the parking area and lifts to all floor levels. Reception was quick and easy, friendly staff. There is grocery store 1-2 minutes walk, they have most of what you will need. Yes a bit pricey, but it's fine for a few things you will get. A few restaurants within walking distance. Honestly, it was a fine stay. Oh, the doors slam hard, please don't be the jerk who let's the door slam everytime you come in and out. Yes, we had one of those jerks on our level. I probably would stay here again, but on a higher level. We did pay and get an ocean view, which was mostly trees. Nothing grand about this place except the location, nothing horrible either. Decent enough place to stay when visiting the Sunshine Coast.
