We were somewhat put off going having seen all the reviews about queues. We went on a Wednesday and waited for only about 20mins going over and no queue on the way back! We walked up a trail to a peak on Dursey and had amazing views all around. A brilliant day out

My husband wanted to go to Dursey Island on the cable car for a long time but anytime we were in the area the queues were really long, so you have to plan the timing carefully. We were staying 2hours plus away in Baltimore, but he was willing to make the drive directly to the spot in order to get across. When we arrived at 11.30am we were told an approx 45 min wait, so great (we thought)....turned out to be 1.5hours as numbers were very limited & a local turned up & had priority. The man in the office was very polite & also sanitised the cabin a couple of times when it returned. It was a lovely clear & sunny day but there is absolutely no shelter if the weather is bad. There are loos which are ok (have seen worse) When we eventually got to the island there were fabulous views in all directions & we had a short walk for about 30mins, but we were conscious another queue could form on the way back so didn't delay too long as my husband was just very pleased we got there.

Went out on a Sunday morning at 10:30 and was prepared to wait the 1.5Hrs to get the cable car out to the island, but got on an earlier car as there was only two of us so we shared with a family. Spent 3 hours walking around the island (following the loop walk anticlockwise, as recommended in another trip advisor review as easier on the way back). A few wet and muddy bits but we were okay in runners. Views are spectacular, and a lot of the time it feels like you have the island to yourself. We got back from the island at 14:00 and had no wait for a car, though the lady in the ticket office had mentioned that the cars coming back from the island get busy from 15:30 on.

Actually stayed on the island in a rental home. An incredible experience. Beautiful walks and spectacular views. In the evening the only sound was the sea crashing against the rocks. A perfect opportunity to take stock, read a book and simply talk! The cable car is very well run however numbers allowed onto the car as restricted due to Covid. Its a good idea to get to there early to avoid queues.

Queued for 2 hours to get onto the car to get across to Dursey in 7 minutes and another queue of 1.5 hours to get the car back. Surely, Cork County Council can introduce some sort of an online booking system to improve on that? It was a beautiful Summer's day and the 4 hours on the island was utter magic as we took the tarred road right to the end and then returned via the 'higher' route and via the signal tower. Different world out there.
